You can use any yarn you want, but then you have to adjust the lenght on the edgeing.

First you will knit the edgeing as long you want.It should to be at least 2 meter(79 inch). After the edgeing you pick up new stiches countinue sharpeing the shawel whith short rows.

 

The first stich on every row is a knit stich, the last one is always slip as to purl

Cast om 11 stiches.

R1  K1,*YO,K2tog*x3, YO,K3, slip as to purl

R2  K3,P8,slip as to purl

R3  K1,*YO,k2tog*x3,YO, K4,slip as to purl

R4 K3 ,P9, slip as to purl

R5 K1,*YO,K2tog*x3 K5, slip as to purl

R6 K3,P10, slip as to purl

R7 K1,*YO,K2tog*x3, YO K6,slip as to purl

R8 K3,P 11 ,slip as to purl

R9  K1,slip1 K 2tog psso*YO,slip1 psso*x2, YO,K2tog, K4, slip as to purl

R10 K3,P10, slip as to purl

R11 K1, slip1 K2tog passo,*YO, slip1 psso*x2, K3 slip as to purl

R12 K3, P 9, slip as to purl

R13 K1, slip1 K2tog psso,*YO,slip1 psso*x2,K2 slip as to purl

R14 K3,P 8 , slip as to purl

R15 K1,slip 1 K2tog psso,*YO,slip1 psso*x2 ,K2 slip as to purl

R16 K3,P7,slip as to purl

 

Repeat as many you want. Here I did it 25 time. But if you have a thinner yarn you may need 35-40. The edge should measure at least 2 meter before starting to shape the shawel with short rows.

 

After the last one, bind off all stiches but  leave one. Turn the work and pick up new stiches along the edge.

Count the middle stich, place marker.

Knit to the maker, slip marker, K10,turn

K10 slip marker,K10 turn

K10,slip marker, K 9,K2tog ,K5, turn

K 15,slip marker,K9 ,K2tog,K5 turn

And so on, each row will growe further out.

When all stiches are knitted it´s time to bind off used a elastic bind off.
